The Scott Sisters: Pioneers of Science and Art
As part of the State Library of New South Wales’ 200th Anniversary, Skye McIntosh (Artistic Director of the Australian Haydn Ensemble) approached Studio Gilay to produce the animation elements of an immersive new multimedia work that is inspired by the lives of 19th-century illustrators and naturalists Harriet and Helena Scott and their acclaimed ‘Butterfly Book’, Australian Lepidoptera and their Transformations.
Drawing directly from the Library’s collection, Studio Gilay produced nine distinct yet cohesive animations of moths, butterflies, snails and flowers which honoured the original illustrations as well as provided meaningful cultural consultation to the play that was written by Rachel McDonald.
This production was performed at the State Library of New South Wales’ auditorium in late September 2026.
