AGNSW- Wik & Kugu in Aurukun

In September 2023, our Creative Director, Jake Duczynski, along with a team from The Art Gallery of NSW spent time on Wik-Mungkan Country (FNQ) to hold creative workshops with the local Aurukun community and discuss new collaborations. Facilitated by Wik & Kugu Aurukun Arts Centre, we joined forces with DOP Brendan Blacklock to document the process of making the world-renowned Ku (Camp Dogs) that feature in the AGNSW, Sydney Modern and around the world.

The team had the privilege of heading out with Aurukun artists to collect milk-wood, salt pan ochres and even managed to do a bit of hunting and fishing along the way. We can’t wait to return in 2024, to spend more time in this powerful place and learn more about the deep knowledge and storytelling that continues there.
