Cooked
In 2020, Studio Gilay brought to life the wildly original COOKED — a 5-part animated comedy series like no other. Directed, written and produced by the studio’s co-founders James Hackett and Jake Duczynski (Gomeroi/Mandandanji), COOKED was made possible with the support of Screen Australia and the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Set in an alternate version of 2020, the series follows the ghost of Captain Cook — yes, that Captain Cook — as he sails around Australia in search of a cure for a mysterious curse called Wyatt Gildt. Haunted and bound to his ship for eternity, Cook is joined by his unlikely sidekick Daringa, a wisecracking goat, as they navigate the bizarre and bold new world that they have found themselves in.
Inspired by then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s plan to send a replica of Cook’s ship, the Endeavour, around Australia to commemorate the 250th anniversary of his arrival, COOKED’s unique visual style is a blend of vibrant 2D animation with stylised 3D moments. The series is packed with absurd adventure, sharp satire, and poignant moments, inviting audiences to reflect on history while being entertained.
We’re beyond proud of COOKED and deeply grateful to everyone who’s connected with its message.
